Your Save-the-Dates for your Destination Wedding

Starfish Save the Date-1

Destination weddings are a great way to gather your close friends and family and celebrate your wedding.  Guests also often turn them into their annual vacation and extend their time in the locatoin for a few days on either side of your wedding.  And why not?  Who doesn’t want an excuse to take a few extra days off of work?

Plane Ticket Save the Date_1

Whenever you decide that a destination wedding is for you and finally pick your location, don’t forget about sending out a save-the-date early enough to let guests plan for it.  A save-the-date for a local wedding would traditionally go out, maybe, six months before the big day, with invites to follow around 8 weeks out.  But for a destination wedding, try to send them earlier if you can.  Here at Fresh LiME Events, we recommend mailing them around the nine month more or earlier.  This way guests get plenty of notice to either plan who might want the kids (adults want a break too), book travel and save up.

Save the Date and Invitation_2

Save-the-Dates are the first piece of correspondence that officially kicks off the countdown to the big day for guests, so it will set the tone for your wedding.  If you’re getting married in Italy,  what about incorporating wine?  If you’re headed to the Caribbean, what about playing on the starfish, like Momental Designs did with one of their save-the-dates.  You can also use the theme and design from the Save-the-Date and pull it through all the way to the invitation and the itinerary for guests.  Whatever you decide, just have fun with it.  Don’t forget about the content, as well.  You’ll want to include the basics like the date [obviously!] and where it is you’re gong.  But you can give guests a little extra help by including any information on possible flights you’ve checked out, hotel room block reference codes and maybe the weather that time of year.  If you have a website, include that too, if you want.
